A small moth of the Elachistidae family with a 10-12 mm wingspan, distributed in almost all of Europe with the exception of the Iberian and Balkan Peninsula (www.fauna-eu.org), is absent from the islands in Italy. br>
White or cream-colored fore wings with more or less intense dusting black or brown, concentrated in the postdiscal and marginal areas of the wing. The edge is fringed.
The rear wings are translucent gray, strongly fringed.
The moth fly from May to August, in two generations depending on latitude.
The pupa is anchored outside the nursing plant by a silk belt.
The larvae feed on Phalaris arundiacea and Phragmites australis (common cane); occasionally on other herbs. The pupa is anchored outside on food by a silk belt.
